Freedom West CDC believes in the economic power of the arts and focuses significant effort toward Creative Placemaking as a means of supporting the arts and culture of our region. Freedom West CDC believes that the performing and visual arts, literature and creative writing, are integral to preserving authenticity of place and regional culture. Freedom West CDC is working toward the revitalization of the historic downtown square in Alva, Oklahoma—one of the last remaining traditional courthouse squares in the state---by developing and promoting artistic endeavor and creative placemaking. Specific goals that have been articulated to achieve this strategy include:
· Development of Artist’s Work Spaces
· Development of Artist Designed Way-Finding Signage
· Development and Implementation of Public Art
· Development of Downtown Second Story Living Spaces
· Development and Implementation of additional Arts and Culture Programming Collaborations
Freedom West CDC is actively engaged in promoting the arts and humanities of its service region.
Cultural heritage tourism and nature based tourism are also supported through workshops and sponsored lectures at various museums and tourism sites throughout its service region.
Freedom West CDC provides funding support and technical assistance to service region communities which are working to improve their tourism promotion efforts.
Downtown revitalization strategies are also employed to further improve local communities.
Freedom West CDC staff can assist with Asset Mapping, Strategic Planning Projects, Municipal and County Government initiatives which focus on tourism development, and can provide guidance to communities which need assistance with web-based marketing and promotions.

This full service gallery and studio incubator provides arts and humanities education to the surrounding region and supports the efforts and talent of local and regional artists in displaying and selling their work.
Graceful Arts Center is part of a downtown revitalization strategy in Alva. The center has become an anchor facility on the downtown square and has helped to encourage additional development in the community. The facility has added tremendously to the overall quality of life in Alva and will continue to support the arts and humanities programming in the community.
